My Story

After dabbling with other instruments, I started on bassoon at age 12, studying with Professor Edgar Kirk (of the Richards Quintet and first President of the International Double Reed Society). My musical education continued at Interlochen, Oberlin Conservatory, and eventually I earned a degree in music performance from Michigan State University.

After graduation, I relocated to Los Angeles and threw myself into the world of rock music, as a guitarist, singer and song writer. An aptitude for sound synthesis and recording technology led to intermittent work writing and producing soundtracks.

My day job eventually took me to Washington, D.C., where an interest in classical music again took hold. I began performing as the principal bassoonist for the Capital City Symphony, and played regularly with the Morpheus Chamber Players and as a guest musician for the Friday Morning Music Club.

A few years after that, I started composing music for orchestral instruments. The Hiram College Chamber Orchestra in Ohio debuted several of my compositions for orchestra: Sunrise (2012), Unexpected Fanfare and March (2014), and Suite for Hiram (2018). In addition to these works, several of my pieces for smaller ensembles have been performed in Washington D.C., Virginia, Maryland and Michigan.

After a decades long odyssey, I returned to Michigan and am now studying music composition at Michigan State University.
